Abstract: The penetration of 20% ballistic gelatin by rigid steel spheres is studied and analytically modeled. In order to properly capture the response for a wide variety of sphere sizes and impact velocities, a rate-dependent strength formulation is required for the ballistic resistance of gelatin.
