Validation of Xpatch Computer Models for Human Body Radar Signature

Abstract: This technical report compares the radar signatures of a human body as computed by the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) and Xpatch modeling techniques. Our main purpose is to validate the Xpatch (approximate) models with an exact electromagnetic solver (FDTD). We achieve this by comparing the radar cross section (RCS), range profiles and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images of the human body, as computed by the two methods. This work is important in validating Xpatch as an accurate tool for modeling general STTW radar scenarios, where a major goal consists in detecting and identifying humans enclosed in building structures.
