Abstract: Renewed interest in harmonic and multitone radar has motivated design efforts based on the standard approach found in the radar literature, i.e., the classical radar equation. In this report, we show that such approaches can be problematic in determining the correct power budget requirements for detecting a nonlinear target, and that it is necessary to examine the differences of a linear versus nonlinear target cross-section.
