Abstract: We discuss the potential and difficulties of using infrared (IR) spectroscopy of the human epidermis as a biometric. We present preliminary data on the fingerpads of 9 individuals demonstrating the potential for uniqueness and stability. We also present data on the challenges presented by complications such as sebum changes, intra-individual location variability, and skin care products.
