Abstract: This report is the application of morphological image techniques to the energy detection scenario of signals in the RF spectrum domain. The algorithm automatically establishes a detection threshold based on the data of the RF spectrum measurement. Initially, a modified watershed transform was applied to form an envelope of the spectral data. Then a morphological "opening" operation was applied to the spectral envelope data to establish the noise floor. Using this noise floor estimation, an energy detection threshold was determined.
