Abstract: In this report, a fast algorithm for computing scattered fields with the use of physical optics (PO) equivalent approximation in half-space is presented. The theoretical basis for the algorithm and the derivation of formulas used in the algorithm is presented. The algorithm is used to compute the radar cross sections (RCSs) of several objects. The RCS of the objects computed by the algorithm is compared with those that were computed with the method of moments (MOM). The results presented are found to be accurate when the target dimensions are greater than or equal to 2 lamba, where lamba denotes the wavelength. It is concluded that the PO algorithm presented in this report can be used for majority of applications as it captured all the salient features of the targets.
