A Point-wise Solution for the Magnetic Field Vector

Abstract: Magnetometers offer measurements that define the angle to the magnetic field. Knowledge of this restricts the axis of interest to lie on a cone centered on the magnetic field direction with an angle proportional to the measurement of magnetic field strength. With this restriction, formulae are derived for finding the relationship between the magnetic field pointing vector, the spin axis, and the magnitude of the magnetic field. Methods based on both calibrated and uncalibrated magnetometers are discussed. These formulae are also useful for the calibration of magnetometers.
