Abstract: This report describes the development work to experimentally determine the friction characteristics of the UAV Engines Limited 1100 rotary engine. Background research suggests methods to measure and reduce friction loss. The analytical equations shown are used to determine friction characteristics from experimental measurements. A computer-aided design model of an engine friction test rig was designed and fabricated to test the engine. A computer model of the rotary engine using GT-Power was created and will be validated through experimental test results. Future work includes testing, postdata analysis, and validation of a computer model.
