MultiBoom: A Generic Multibody Flight Mechanics Simulation Tool for Smart Projectiles

Abstract: A multibody flight dynamics tool that permits simulation and analysis of advanced precision munition concepts was developed. Custom airframe configurations are easily constructed in the tool to rapidly proceed to flight simulation. This report presents the multibody dynamics theory along with system models. A case study of a novel precision munition concept featuring five bodies in flight was also investigated. This capability provides rapid assessment of the nonlinear flight dynamics and guidance, navigation, and control system design of complex precision munition concepts.
