The Human Dimension of Network Enabled Operations: Cognitive Performance in Mission Command

Report No. ARL-RP-0416
Authors: Jonathan Z. Bakdash
Date/Pages: December 2012; 8 pages
Abstract: Advantages of network enabled operations are based on information superiority leading to greater mission effectiveness. There are two dimensions to attaining the benefits of information superiority: technical systems and humans. The performance and capabilities of technical systems are necessary for information superiority, but not sufficient. Technical systems must meet Soldier needs and capabilities by maximizing cognitive performance: i.e., Soldiers must be able to quickly and accurately find, understand, and act on the information provided by technical systems.
