Abstract: A study was done in order to understand the acoustic resonance of narrow cylindrical tubes with side branch holes that are used in photo-acoustic spectrometers. A review of the available literature on the subject lead to an adaptation of electrical transmission line matrix representation to determine the resonant frequencies of the tubes. Experiments were carried out on PVC models of the actual tubes of the photo-acoustic spectrometer. The theory of acoustic resonance in cylindrical tubes with side branch structures was used to calculate the resonant frequencies. These frequencies were compared to the experimental results.
