ARL employees recognized for excellence in federal service

BALTIMORE, Md. - Nineteen U.S. Army Research Laboratory employees were honored by the Baltimore Federal Executive Board at the 44th annual Excellence in Federal Career Awards luncheon and ceremony on May 6.

Of the total number of ARL award recipients, 10 employees were recognized in individual categories with a team of nine being recognized for the collective work of their team.

The Baltimore FEB recognizes Maryland's federal agency employees each year during Public Service Recognition Week for excellence in job performance throughout the previous year. The 2011 awards program was held at Martin's West in Baltimore.

The Baltimore FEB recognized 209 individuals and 23 teams of Maryland federal employees and military service members at this year's ceremony. Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards were presented to the winners in 20 different job excellence categories.

Dennis Hash, chief of the Experimentation Fabrication Branch in the Weapons and Materials Research Directorate (WMRD), and Song Park, a computer engineer in the Computational and Information Sciences Directorate, won Gold awards in individual categories. The management support group in WMRD won a Gold award for a team category.

Teresa Brady, Sensors and Electron Devices Directorate (SEDD), Dr. Jeffrey Swab, WMRD, Kent Kimsey (retired), WMRD, Joseph Lariviere, WMRD, and Dr. David McNamara, SEDD, were presented with a Silver award.

Bronze awards were presented to Michael Maher, WMRD, Amanda L. Porter, WMRD, and James Wolbert, WMRD, were presented with Bronze awards.

More than 1,100 federal officials, employees, military service members, family members, and guests participated in the event, which featured the Baltimore area U.S. Coast Guard Color Guard.

Debbie Cummins, Renee Dively, Dawn Dugan, George Klem, Mary Laffey, Sheila Lloyd, Joanne Mohr, Karan Schiele, and Katie Sweet - Outstanding Administrative/Management Assistant (Team)

Silver Awards

Teresa Brady - Outstanding Para-Professional (Non-Supervisory) - Administrative/Management Analyst, GS-8 and above

Dr. Jeffrey J. Swab - Volunteer Service/Community Outreach (Individual)

Kent D. Kimsey - Distinguished Public Service Career (for civilian retirees only)

Joseph T. Lariviere - Rookie Employee of the Year - Administrative/Management Analyst

Dr. David McNamara - Rookie Employee of the Year - Technical Scientific and Program Support

Bronze Awards

Michael Maher - Outstanding Supervisor - Grades 13 and above

Amanda L. Porter - Outstanding Administrative/Management Assistant (Individual)

James Wolbert - Outstanding Trades and Crafts Employee (Non-Supervisory)
