ARL Traffic Generation Tool

The ARL Traffic Generation Tool speeds the design and development of network traffic scenarios for network science experimentation by presenting multiple traffic files in a consolidated timeline format, allowing the researcher to visualize traffic flows as conversations between network nodes rather than editing individual script files. Using the ARL Traffic Generation Tool, researchers can author new traffic flows or edit existing flows in the form of NRL Multi-Generator files.

Each MGEN file is presented as a network node listed vertically along the left side of the timeline. Traffic flows defined within the MGEN file are displayed as horizontal segments along the time line, noting the start time, stop time, and destination node. The researcher can inspect each flow to reveal more details such as destination port, protocol, and traffic pattern type.

The Multi-Generator (MGEN) is open source software developed by NRL's PROTocol Engineering Advanced Networking Research Group. MGEN provides the ability to perform IP network performance tests and measurements using TCP and UDP/IP traffic. More information about MGEN can be found on the NRL web site.
