Gleeble Testing of Tungsten Samples

Abstract: Bulk nano-grained tungsten materials produced via powder metallurgy are often too brittle for the post-processing steps required to close off porosity left after manufacturing and create a fully dense part. In order to alleviate this problem, rhenium was added to sintered nano-tungsten samples to improve ductility. A Gleeble 1500 process simulator was used to evaluate high-temperature behavior of the nano-tungsten samples, with and without rhenium, to determine a set of processing parameters that could be used during post-processing steps to create fully dense nano-grained tungsten material.
