Effect of Abrasion on the Properties of a Glass-Ceramic

Report No. ARL-TN-0954

Date/Pages: June 2019; 17 pages
Abstract: Glass-ceramic plates were exposed to an increasing number of abrasion cycles to determine if the resulting abrasive damage affected the optical haze and flexure strength. The optical haze continually increased with an increase in the number of abrasion cycles while the flexure strength decreased after the first 150 cycles but did not exhibit any further decrease through 2400 cycles. The change in haze and strength is similar to what was observed previously with borosilicate and soda-lime-silicate float glasses.
