CARY, N.C. (Aug. 19, 2016) -- The U.S. Army Research Laboratory's Army Research Office recently held its annual Organizational Day picnic at Bond Park in Cary, North Carolina.

Despite the high heat, it was a great afternoon of camaraderie and time together for ARO staff, contractors, friends and family.

Approximately 80 people were able to attend, and the consensus opinion was that the event was an abundant success and a great time together away from the office.

Hamburgers and hot dogs were grilled as a main course by Richard Freed and George Stavrakakis, with rave reviews from employees, and volunteers contributed food and drinks, which included homemade pasta salad, baked beans and fruit salad.

There was even homemade cheerwine ice cream that was churned on site by Barry Covert of the Army Contracting Command's Research Triangle Park Division.

In addition to the great food, activities included a game of kickball, corn hole, bocce and a children's sibling rivalry "egg on the spoon" race.

The kickball game was a resounding success with participants of all ages pitching, kicking and manning bases.

Jeanette Qiu, daughter of Joe Qiu, was named Most Valuable Player of the kickball game.

The stars of corn-hole and bocce were the families of Wanda Lawrence and David Stepp, respectively.

Jeramiah Palmer, son of Ashley Palmer, was the ultimate victor of the egg race, besting his sister Carolyn and sibling pair Evelyn and Owen Munson.

A great time was had by all, and employees have already expressed interest in attending next year's event.
