Army researcher to serve as special operations science advisor

ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. (Feb. 9, 2016) – An engineer with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory will soon be advising the U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Richard Haddox, an ARL researcher with the Weapons and Material Research Directorate at APG, has been involved with the XM25 Air Burst Grenade Rifle and the Integrated Ballistic Reticle Sight for snipers.

"My background is sights and fire control systems and my degree is in research psychology," he said.

Haddox has been with ARL since 2004.

"I hope to continue to provide the SOCOM community with the latest technology ARL has to offer," he said.

The U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command Field Assistance in Science and Technology program connects highly qualified researchers with Army commands to serve as science advisors.

"The FAST Science Advisor program provides a direct link between operational units, USASOC in this case, and Army researchers," said acting WMRD Director David H. Lyon. "We will take advantage of this linkage and utilize Rick during his next assignment to maintain a high level of communication and collaboration."

Haddox will be on a two-year assignment and will be completing an orientation and reach-back training upon arrival in March 2016.
